KANSAS CITY’S FAMOUS (OR INFAMOUS) 12TH STREET STRIP was a most appealing block of bars, cabarets, bistros, taverns and beer joints. It is fair to state that millions of dollars was added to the entire economy of Kansas City because of the "12th Street Strip."

Until a few enterprising businessmen decided to add some excitement to an entire city block, downtown KC had a kind of "cowtown" image. Once the GO GO bars opened, the block became notorious and a draw for conventions.

In addition to the many regular customers, each new convention booked in Kansas City drew hundreds of new customers who enjoyed entertainment not available at the time in many of the nation’s larger cities at the time. The strip was responsible for millions of dollars added to the economy throughout the city.
